Sustainable development through meaningful partnerships.
Juntos was founded in August 2007 when ten students from Carnegie Mellon University came together as a part of a Latin American initiative. Over the next four years, they traveled to a Nicaraguan community outside Leon to teach entrepreneurship and financial literacy workshops and work on community development projects. Starting in the fall of 2009, our group changed its direction and initiated a new partnership with Bridges to Community, an international non-profit that works year-round on human rights projects in Nicaragua. With an emphasis on long-term sustainability, we seek to raise the quality of life and empower the people of Rosa Grande, a rural community in north-central Nicaragua. Much of our work in Rosa Grande is attempting to understand and improve the situation of the community in targeted ways, which helps us to define and build on our vision for the future. Our mission is to develop our initiatives of education, health and wellness, and environmental protection and foster dialogue between Rosa Grande and Pittsburgh that will affect change on the lives of all parties involved.
