Sustainable development through meaningful partnerships.
On November 8, 2014, the members of Juntos hosted the Second Annual ChocoLate Night at UC Connan. Like the previous year’s ChocoLate Night, we wanted to show students how they could enjoy chocolate AND promote a positive impact in the world. As we served irresistible hot chocolate and free trade chocolate, we were able to joyfully share our knowledge of the free trade industry of cacao beans. Juntos has had the privilege of working with a village called Rosa Grande in Siuna, Nicaragua for many years. As Rosa Grande manages its cacao plantation, it was also an incredible experience to be able to spread what we have learned in our time there to the community in CMU.
Throughout the night, we played games and popped balloons with secret messages inside them and exchanged them for chocolate. In the midst of the cacophony of balloon popping and chocolate noshing, there were also dance-offs and birthday celebrations. Before we knew it, our event came to an end.
We couldn’t have successfully hosted the events without the help of local stores that generously donated the free trade chocolates as well as the diligent work of the Juntos members, who spent weeks planning and promoting the event. In the end, we were able to share the fun with all the people who came to join us! We can’t wait to host another late night next year!
